C276 is chromium- molybdenum and nickel alloy with a moderate composition of tungsten. It is designed to have excellent corrosion resistance in various serious conditions. Addition of high nickel alloy and molybdenum content make Hastelloy highly resistive to crevice and pitting corrosion even in the reducing environments. In this, chromium carries high level resistance to oxidation. The low composition of carbon reduces carbide precipitation when exposed to welding. It keeps up corrosion resistance in welded sections.

Nickel composition limits the formation of grain boundary precipitate in weld effect zones. Thus, it makes it suitable for most chemical processing environments when it is welded.
