Alloy 20 is also called carpenter 20 chromium, iron and nickel-based austenitic alloy developed for greater resistance to acid attacks, particularly sulfuric acid. The superalloy has very good resistance to general corrosion, crevice corrosion, and pitting in the chemicals containing sulfuric, phosphoric, and nitric acid. Also, it contains niobium for the stabilization against the sensitization and resultant intergranular corrosion.
The carpenter 20 combines very good resistance to corrosion resistance with elevated mechanical properties and good fabrication properties. Though it was developed for use in sulfuric acid related industries, it is today extensively ranges of industries like food, chemical, plastic, etc. In addition to it, this is also used in the mixing tanks, piping, etc.
