ASTM A335 is a molybdenum and chromium seamless ferritic steel pipes used for greater temperature applications. These pipes are made from a solid round billet which is heated and forced over a design to shape a hollow tube.
These pipes are processed by extruding the material to the desired length. P5 does not have any joint in its cross sections throughout its length.
In the seamless pipe does not have welding or joints that are processed from solid round billets. These seamless pipes are finished for dimensional and wall thickness requirements.
DESCRIPTION
ASTM A335 P5 Seamless Pipes are a seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe for application in elevated-temperature applications. The seamless pipes are demanded with specifications shall be suitable for bending and other forming operations. The P5 grade is referred to as the molybdenum-chrome pipe. ASTM A335 pipes are commonly used in the power plant industries and petrochemical plants. These are also used in refineries.P5 seamless pipes have also enhanced corrosion resistance that prevents pitting and crevice corrosion cracking.
CONCLUSION
The chromium content present on it is not replaceable while resisting oxidation in the hoisted temperatures. However the chromium content increases yield and tensile strength, and hardness at nominal temperatures. The moly presence on its alloying chemistry elevates the strength of pipes. Thus, elastic limit, hardenability, wear resistance and elastic properties are also increased. These seamless pipes also offer good service when applied in chemical containing environments.
These seamless pipes have greater weldability and all welding operations including resistance and fusion welding are used. These are readily formed and machined by all standard machines and operations
