Stainless Steel 316 Sheets and Plates (UNS S31600) is nickel, chromium, and molybdenum austenitic stainless steel designed to provide enhanced corrosion resistance in moderately corrosive environments. Moreover, these sheets and plates can be utilized in the process streams that contain high levels of halides. The alloying elements improve their general corrosion resistance ability and pitting corrosion resistance. SS sheets and plates have higher creep and stress to rupture strength. It has higher tensile strength even in higher temperatures.
SS 316 is available with dual certification such as the low and higher composition of carbon. Also, 316 have a moderate amount of nitrogen content. These perform well in atmospheric corrosive environments even in moderate reducing and oxidizing environments. As-welded condition it offers good resistance to intergranular attacks. SS 316 sheets and plates offer excellent lower temperature toughness and strength.
DESCRIPTION
Stainless steel sheets and plates turn into non-magnetic condition after annealing. In process environments, these sheets and plates do not corrode. 316 sheets and plates offer good performance in higher concentrations of acids up to 120 deg F. Also, these perform well in hot phosphoric environments. These sheets and plates have minimum effects when exposed to an organic and inorganic compound containing environments.
CONCLUSION
Stainless Steel 316 Sheets and Plates are readily processed from all machines associated with this grade. Working temperature is between 1700 deg F to 2200 deg F and at the same temperature, it is processed from hot working operation. It should be annealed to attain higher corrosion resistance and quenched by water. it has good cold-forming properties. This increased strength and hardness of sheets and plates avoiding embrittlement. Also, it leaves a magnetic effect on SS 316 sheets and plates.
