Grade 410 is a martensitic SS also known as general purpose SS which contain chromium 11.5%. This grade shows good corrosion resistance feature because of the presence of the chromium. For further enhancing the corrosion resistance of the grade 410 different processes are involved like hardening, polishing, and tempering. Tempering and quenching can harden this grade. This grade is used mostly in the application involving heat resistance, high strength, and mild corrosion. Martensitic SS are fabricated utilizing techniques where final heat treatment is required. This grade, when compared to austenitic grade, shows less corrosion resistance. Their working temperature is affected by the loss of strength at elevated temperature because of the over tempering as well as the loss of ductility.
Applications in which Stainless Steel 410 Pipes & Tubes are generally used are pipelines, surgical instrument, automotive parts, etc. SS 410 is resistant to steam; hot gases, alkalis, and dry air, freshwater, etc. smooth surface of this grade is responsible for offering good performance.
Also, this grade shows good scaling resistance up to 650°C. However, the mechanical property of this grade decreases at a temperature between 400-580°C. Now, about heat treatment, this grade can be annealed at temperature 815-900°C followed by furnace cooling and air cooling. Annealing can be carried out at 650-760°C and then air-cooled.
